My name is Brittany and I would like to tell you my story the best that I can remember it. It all started in February 1993 and this is the way it went. "What's that they are saying? What do they mean that they will be putting me to sleep if someone doesn't take me by 5:00 pm? I don't go to sleep that early. I have a terrible feeling that when they say they are putting me to sleep it's not a very nice thing. Oh dear, oh dear, what is going to happen to me. I don't know what I am doing in this place anyway. It's cold and damp. I don't even have my own bed anymore. I'm not use to this kind of food. I'd really rather not eat it but if I don't I'll be hundry. My humans said they were going on vacation and they couldn't take me with them. They took me before. Why not now? I always tried to be a good sheltie. I didn't bark too much, I played with my girl and never hurt her, I didn't go pottie in the house and I guarded the house as best as I know how. Why did they put me here? I just don't understand what I did wrong. A couple of days ago a real nice lady stopped to see me. She sure smelled good. She talked to me for a while and played with me through the cage and then she left. But she said she would be back for me and I didn't have to worry. But I am worried! Why didn't the lady come back for me. WAIT A MINUTE - - is that her? It looks like her but I can't be sure. Oh, that wonderful smell - - IT IS HER! She comes right over to me and reminds me that she said she would be back. There's one of those men with her, you know who I mean, the one who said they were going to put me to sleep. I'm scared. What's he doing here? The nice lady has him open the cage door and they put a leash and collar on me and she calls me out of this horrible place. I'm so happy, I just can't believe that she is taking me with her. We go outside of this place and I get to go pottie on the grass and we play a little and then we continue on to her van. She puts me in and she gives me a nummie. Boy, that sure tasted good. I haven't had one of them for a long time. We leave this place. On the ride the lady tells me that she is with something called SHELTIE RESCUE and that they are going to find me a wonderful home where I will be loved and I will never have to leave and I will never go back to one of those places again. A couple of days later a nice lady and man come to see me and they fall in love with me. I really liked them, too. They tell the rescue lady that they want me to be their little girl and they promise me that I will never leave them. So, we all go home and we have a wonderful time. A couple of weeks later my new Mom and Dad come home with a really tiny, shy sheltie called Heather. My Mom and Dad tell me that Heather is my new sister. Heather is really scared and she tells me that her former humans left her tied up to the fence at one of those places very early in the morning. A nice smelling lady came and got her out. Heather says she is not too sure what's going to happen to her but I tell her that we have a great Mom and Dad and that everything will be all right. Since then we have gone all over with our family. We even go on houseboats every and we have a grand time. I get to chase ducks, but I haven't caught one yet. What would I do if I caught it? Our "cousins" come down from San Francisco and go on the houseboat with us. They also told me that the same lady went and got them from one of those places and then they went on an airplane with their new family and flew to San Francisco. Well, this is my story except Heather and I now have a very handsome brother. His name is Brewster and he is what they call a blue merle sheltie. He is a lot of fun to play with and he really takes care of the whole family. He tells us that his former humans just dumped him on the street in a place called Long Beach and that one day some man with a truck that had cages in it saw him and picked him up. A couple of days later a sweet smelling lady (sounds like the same lady that rescued my sister and me) came and took him home with her. Then my Mom and Dad got him and told him that he was going to have two sisters and that he would never have to worry about what was going to happen to him as he was their little boy and always would be. It is great to have a big brother to play with and to take care of my sister and me. I told him about how wonderfut it has been here and h ow much we are loved and I assured him that he would never have to worry again. See, four-legged people really do have guardian angels and our guardian angels are called SHELTIE RESCUE. Isn't it wonderful that there are people like them out there that get us out of those pounds and shelters and then find us loving homes? Boy, just think, if that lady had not come after me I would now be sleeping. P.S. My Mommie helped me with this as I haven't quite learned to to work the computer yet.
