Printing the Agility Courses

Some people seem to be unable to print the agility courses straight from their web browser. This is a short tutorial in how to save the courses and print them out so you can use them later.

First, you have to understand that most browsers these days have fairly poor print support. There is little that you can do to change the size of the image that prints out, and the quality is generally very poor. So, what you need to do is save the image to a file and print it out using another program.

To save an agility course, just right-click your mouse on it, and look for a selection on the menu along the lines of "Save Image". Save your image to a directory you will remember; if you plan on doing this a lot, you may want to create a "courses" directory to save them in. Please remember, though, that most courses may not be used without permission for anything other than printing them out for personal use.

Now, you will need some type of graphics software that lets you view and print out graphics, and preferably resize them. If you already have something like Paint Shop Pro, or a commercial graphics program, you're in good shape. Most of these programs have an option when printing to stretch the graphic to full page. In Paint Shop Pro, just go to Page Setup and click the box that says "Use Full Page". The quality of the printout is not razor-sharp by any means, but it should be easily readable.

If you don't already have a graphics program, never fear, they are out there for you to download. If you are using Windows 95, I found a couple free programs that you can use. My preference is IrfanView. This little program lets you open up the file, then select "Print" and you can tell it to stretch to the page when printing. Download it from the IrfanView homepage.

For Windows 3.1 users, I found a nice little application called GraphX. Just open up the file in this program, and print it, and you'll get a nice full-size image. In fact, of all the programs I looked at, this gave the absolute best results...so much so, that I'm keeping a copy on the computer to use myself. It works fine in Windows 95, so Win95 users, don't hesitate to give it a try. Download the program from the GraphX homepage.

If your a Macintosh user, you're a little bit on your own, since I don't have a Mac to test stuff on. But I did find a freeware graphics viewer that can handle GIF called Jade; you'll have to download it and try it to see if it can print full screen. Info is at Zdnet.

Feel free to email me for more help or if any of these links are not working. Remember that you are downloading and using these programs at you own risk, and I am not guaranteeing that they will work safely on your system.
